Personal
Injury Frequently Asked Questions
How much is my case worth?
Your case is worth either what you agree with the insurance
company its worth or the amount of cash award granted by
a judge or jury. We will examine all of the conditions surrounding
your case including liability concerns and a full medical
analysis in order to arrive at a figure which we believe
the insurance company must pay for your injuries.
How
long will it take to get a fair and reasonable settlement
offer?
Cases can vary in length from weeks to months, even to
years in some instances. Typically, you will get paid after
you have healed from your injuries and have been released
by the doctor. This is the best way you can be assured of
receiving full value for your injuries. We want you to get
compensation for your injuries so we wait until treatment
is completed before telling the insurance company how much
your case is worth. We wait for your treatment to be completed.
We gather the information that increases the value of your
case. We constantly do everything we can do to move your
case forward.
Will I have to go to Court?
If the insurance company agrees to pay what we agree your
case is worth, and you wish to settle for that amount, then
your case will not go to court. This is what happens in
over 90% of our cases. Some cases do require a formal trial
proceeding. However, in either situation, hiring a law firm
with experience in handling personal injury cases is critical.
We prepare all of our cases as if they were going to court,
yet your case probably will not reach a jury.
How much will Reiff & Bily charge?
There is no fee unless we recover money for you.
Our fee is a percentage of your recovery. If a recovery
is not made, you pay nothing for attorney fees.
Who Will Pay for the Costs of the Lawsuit?
Reiff & Bily will normally advance the costs of prosecuting
the case, including investigation, expert witness fees,
depositions, court fees, travel, photography, exhibit preparation,
accident reconstruction and other costs associated with
the case. If we recover money for you, the costs associated
with the case are deducted from the recovery.
Cant any lawyer handle any type of case?
Its true that you can hire any lawyer licensed to
practice, but not all lawyers have the same training, expertise
and trial experience that we have at Reiff & Bily. Our
"AV" rating is reflective of our excellent credentials,
abilities and standards. We always represent our clients
best interest and will provide exemplary advocacy of your
claim.
Who will pay for the doctor bills and fix my car if the
other person has no insurance?
Even if the driver does not have any insurance, you may
be covered. Please call our office. We will look at your
policy and tell you if you have uninsured motorist coverage
or an alternate type of insurance may compensate you.
What Should I Do at the Accident Scene?
Identify any people who saw the accident so that you will
have witnesses to support your case. Make sure to write
down their names, addresses, and phone numbers. Beware of
any insurance company representatives at the scene of the
collision. Some insurance companies send adjusters to collision
scenes in order to catch people off guard with incriminating
questions and have them sign away their rights.
Immediately after the collision, see a medical doctor.
If you are injured, schedule an appointment with your own
doctor as soon as possible. Do not let the insurance company
choose a doctor for you. You have a right to choose your
physician.
